Justin Spencer - Chapter 7 Reflection

Chapter seven encompasses the evolution of the technologies that we use for typography. From the early printing techniques, to the digital tools that we have become so familiar with, the technology has obviously come a very long way, This chapter was really interesting for me because I really am a fan of technology in general, especially from a historical standpoint that this chapter takes, that compares the early tools to current technology.

This chapter really had me thinking about how much we take for granted today in terms of the tools that we have. In just 30 years or so, computers have made such advancements for designing, and I feel like those of us who weren't around before computers will ever really have a feel for what it was like before software like Photoshop and InDesign were available. I really think it's necessary for our generation to try and engage with past tools in order to have a better understanding of a more hands on approach rather than always choosing the digital tools.

However, it's obvious that computers have drastically changed design for the better. Things have become a lot easier to produce, and less expensive as well. All one really needs is access to a computer and they will have the tools necessary to attempt to design.
