Catull: The serif typeface I decided to go with is called “Catull.” I
discovered this typeface back when I was in high school one day in a graphic
design class. I researched the logo “Google” because of how popular and iconic
the research engine is and found out that “Catull” is the most similar match. I
found this font to be so simple yet so significant. It is a font that is seen
nearly every single day simply when we search anything on Google which causes
people to naturally just know what the logo is but not the actual typeface
name. My first impression of the typeface was that it was a typical modern day
type but is still versatile enough to be used in books and magazines. Comparing
“Catull” to bicycle would have to be a mountain because they are very common
because of their function yet timeless in terms of the way they look.
Caviar Dreams: The sans serif typeface I
decided to go with is called “Caviar Dreams.” This typeface is very simple and
minimally designed. Overall, “Caviar Dreams” seems to be a typeface that gives
readers an impression of being friendly, calm, and opening. But there is some
small attention to details that should be noted. The main characteristic that
stood out the most to me was the lower case “e.” It is slightly slanted to the
left adding life and character to the text. Then there are capital letters like
“B” and “W” that have a lot of weight on the bottom. The capital “W” and lower
case “w” are also the same shape just differentiate with their x-heights. These
small details add identity to “Caviar Dreams” in a way that allows someone who
is less into design to step more into a creative side for once and feel
confident with its look.
