Type Connection - Jessica May Lin
When I first entered type connection, it told me to choose a main character to match. As usual, I chose the one that looked most to my liking--the ITC Century typeface. It gave me four options to choose from: Rely on Family, Seek the Similar, Embrace the other, or Explore the Past. Out of those four, I figured "Seek the Similar" would be the most effective. After matching it with the most similar looking typeface Linoletter, I got a successful match!
What I liked most about both of these typefaces was that they were poised and eloquent looking. They both made a bold statement without making it look too obnoxious or too boring. Typeconnection said that this pair worked because of the "identity of the serif, both bracketed and modeled". Which I fully agree on. They are known to have a bookish quality to them which helps since you see them most on menus and books. They also both have very similar qualities which makes them into a very championed couple. With their common slender forms, large counters, and high x-height it is hard to ever miss this type of typeface.
What I enjoyed most about this game is how you can learn what typefaces look best together. I would have never really thought much into the typefaces that I use and which ones to use what with. The game makes it more fun and understanding to learn also which is a plus.
