Typography Dating Game
When starting this game it gave me
the choice between choosing between the letters “e, g, k, s, or x.” Each of
these had their own description, like their personality traits. So essentially,
I chose one I liked to most relate to. I chose, “s” in Archer. The description
of this letter was, “I am a triple threat in the home, kitchen, and garden."
It then led
to another page that made you choose a strategy to finding Archer’s match. The
four categories were rely on family, seek the similar, embrace the other, and
explore the past. I chose embrace the other because that’s what I like to do,
so I based it off of my own judgment.
Three
letter pairs came up with their descriptions and I was to choose what the
letter “S” matched with the most. I first chose the letter “G” for Glyphia.
This is a condensed adjustment to Frutiger’s slab serif, Serifa, released after
the basic forms of Univers. This was no match though for the Archer. So I went
back and chose the letter “O.” I really enjoyed this because it immediately
went back to the previous page to let me choose again instead of starting over.
It let me look back and decide and reread again what I should choose to make
most compatible.
After
choosing “O,” which stood for Eurostile, it was a match with Archer! The game
then explained why these pairing are matched. This pair is known for their
shapes and the Archer is a slab that praises circles, while the Eurostile is a
sans that follows widened squares. The Archer likes Eurostiles, thick monolinearity
and compact letters. Lastly, these pairing both have intentional curves,
double-story a, and a single-story g. What I enjoyed is that this wasn’t
just a game, but a great teaching and learning technique.
